MINDFULNESS

Eastern philosophy meets Western psychology.

Blending ancient wisdom with modern psychology.

As unique individuals, we sometimes lose sight of the fact that at the core of our being, we are good. This method of therapy gently creates awareness of where we got off track and, through the use of mindfulness, guides us back to our basic nature.

At its core, Mindfulness is being aware of your experiences as you are experiencing them and suspending judgment about them.

These include sensations, thoughts, and feelings. Mindfulness meditation can be thought of as shining the spotlight of attention on a specific focus that you select in the present moment. Mindfulness can be used to enhance cognitive capacities, increase kindness and connection with the world, and deepen your awareness of the richness of all your experiences.

TUNING INTO OUR BODIES - NOT AGAINST THEM

Mindfulness can help those who are struggling with the critical voice in their heads that drive disordered beliefs and practices relating to food, calories, body image, and weight. Helping clients stay in the present moment and become curious about  those voices can help change the way they think about and talk to themselves.

PRESENT MOMENT ANTIDOTE TO DEPRESSION & ANXIETY

Mindfulness has powerful effects in reducing depression and anxiety – which can be thought of as disorders of time (depression = focused on past, anxiety = focus on future loss or catastrophe). It also helps increase self-compassion while reducing ruminations (those endless loops of thoughts that increase depression and anxiousness without creating solutions to problems). The present moment focus on mindfulness creates powerful anti-depressant and anti-anxiety effects because when you focus on the present moment, you let go of the past and the future which is often the cause of rumination and suffering.

INTERRUPTING THE MENTAL LOOPS THAT KEEP US STUCK

Mindfulness can help sidestep the mental habits that lead to despair, including rumination and self-blame, so you can face life’s challenges with greater resilience.
